I desperately want to know what techniques charlemaniac and M are using to achieve these times.

I think it is ultimately better to keep discourse about a given level on Marbleland. This way, people who exclusively use Marbleland and do not check the forums see the discussion. With a few additional features, like replies, reactions, and notifications, I think it'll feel good enough to use that even Nockess will approve of it :)

too much comments... wow

Okay, here's the topic: marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/mb-custom-levels/22975-latest-level-skyscraper-on-progress-discussion I may not respond for a while, since I do sleep. And next time I'll come up with actual planning. (Not sure how.. I'm not bothered to sketch something merely for a MB level..) 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐𝘓𝘍𝘊 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘐 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸

Level topics were a little more relevant before Marbleland—users would create a thread and post their new levels there (back when we were limited to third-party file hosting services like Mediafire). While Marbleland is the best solution we've ever had for sharing our creations, level topics are great for record keeping (see the Wiki!). I still post every time I release a new level, and it's a good place to just talk about them a little bit. An example. :) https://marbleblast.com/index.php/forum/mb-custom-levels/7782-nockess-level-topic-new-marble-mini-golf-connies-birthday?start=90

I enjoy this level’s gameplay. Again, it is far more interesting than what I could create. You are being hard on yourself.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 13:35

I lightly disagree since you 𝘤𝘢𝘯 do a wall hit to a fence, then getting up (highly skill based) if you're stuck. If I have enough courage and time I'm willing to spend, I could make another construction themed level that fixes all it's flaws. This level has insanely bad gameplay, since I didn't plan anything to even begin with. I came up with upcoming gameplay ideas when in the middle of building, and that results in catastrophic results.

ILFC(Dozenalist)

“The start of the level felt a little clunky to me; took like me like 6 attempts to get enough speed with that Shock Absorber or whatever that pillow-looking thing is called in PQ. And, if you don't make it, you're basically stuck forever” This was what I initially thought, but I found it to be trivial after realising I could simply have a looser line to allow a run-up. And eventually, I realised that progression remained possible even if you did not make it — simply wall-hit onto the fence and backtrack, and precisely edge-hit off of the start pad directly to the elevator.

People post their levels in topics they create under the custom levels section. This was the way before the existence of Marbleland, and thats what Nockess is suggesting you to do.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 13:28

I agree although having it constant makes it look the construction is abandoned/halted like the start help text says (ignore the walls & platform), but I need to ask: what is the topic for the forum? About improving level, discussing about construction levels, what construction levels should include, etc.

Vani

The start of the level felt a little clunky to me; took like me like 6 attempts to get enough speed with that Shock Absorber or whatever that pillow-looking thing is called in PQ. And, if you don't make it, you're basically stuck forever This could be a skill issue since I'm not used to the PQ physics

ILFC(Dozenalist)

I agree with Nockess, though I irrationally like the idea of the launcher being constant as the skill ceiling is much lower. I know how absurd that is, but it seems oddly satisfying because the speedrun depends on how quickly you can finish the final part. This forces extremely tight lines at the end, while the rest of the run does not have to be executed perfectly. Obviously, this opinion should be discounted to increase the skill ceiling.

Nockess

on Aug 25, 2026 at 13:12

Wow, this level looks fantastic! I think the only issue I have that hasn't been mentioned yet is that the launcher being a triggered platform rather than a constant one would be most ideal for timing—I agree with other things that have been said about parenting and positioning—but I'm thrilled I played this. You should make a level topic on the forums and post this there. =)

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 13:03

The launcher does work for me at 60fps, its just weaker.

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 13:01

Yes you will need to stop the crane and lock the orientation for the Nest Egg

ILFC(Dozenalist)

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:52

For more details, the level is cycle-based — much like Elevator Action’s full route. Even when rolling swiftly, you must wait for the launcher near the end. On the Haxe Port, the launcher does not launch you properly at 60 FPS. However, if you unplug your laptop when the battery is low, Google Chrome will set your frame rate to 30 FPS. In this case, the launcher 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 work, but the fastest 1-second Time Travel catch I could attain was consistently 00:16.310. Unless a new route is found, it seems impossible to achieve a time lower than 00:16.250 on the Haxe Port. This is why the Awesome Time was altered slightly.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:33

To RandomityGuy: Thanks! I'll try to make some levels with the tool if I have any ideas.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:31

Okay, another update: Changed Awesome Time to 16.350 as ILFC told that it was impossible.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:30

To RandomityGuy about parenting: Okay, I'll fix that in a webport fixed version, but since I have a Nest Egg on the crane that's rotating, do I stop the crane, lock the orientation for the Nest Egg or something else? Rotation on powerups doesn't matter -- it's purely cosmetic so I'll fix it on an other day or so.

For multiple brushes, you need a plugin called PlatformAssist, this copy of Constructor has it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dWDA1-8bFZAApT-feKwmJlULOZ1gPkwt/view?usp=drive_link To make use of it, all you have to do is select ALL the brushes that you want to convert to MP, and then convert it to Door_Elevator. The plugin just makes it possible, works in the background, you don't really need to interact with it.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:26

To ILFC: Elevator Action.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:24

Update: Awesome time was updated to as ILFC said: 16.250.

ILFC(Dozenalist)

“I had tried making a level based on a Marble It Up level that's about MPs and it failed badly.” What level was it?

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:22

Yes, it sounds easy but trust me, I had tried making a level based on a Marble It Up level that's about MPs and it failed badly. • MPs teleporting • Solution: Stack markers and another marker on the starting point • MPs moving back almost instantly • Solution: Adjust marker settings • Multiple brushes on a single path doesn't work on export (like moving platforms with trims) • Solution: Still haven't figured it out yet On the bright side though, I found a program of yours that was last updated in 2025. It's called Hide. It's a pretty good program to edit levels AND has a way to create paths and have PathedInteriors. Although I haven't learned Hide mainly because it's more professional and I have to learn another program just to add slightly better MPs.

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:12

For parenting, its actually PQ that is doing it incorrectly. You have "parentSimple" set to 1, which means it will IGNORE the rotation of the parent and only add a "parentOffset" to the parent's position (it explains right there in the "Parenting Config" dialog in the PQ editor), in that way the port is actually doing it correctly. What you need to do is not use "parentSimple" or "parentOffset", but instead you need to use "parentModTrans", all you do to set that is press the "Lock Current Orientation" button in that dialog box after placing the object where you want.

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 12:04

Moving platforms are really not that hard to set up in constructor. All you have to do is select the brushes that make up an MP, and then turn it into Door_Elevator type of entity. This is all that you need to do and then you can export it. Then in the level editor you add your dif, and with the Inspector, add the PathedInteriors stored in the dif. Markers and stuff you can add through the level editor again.

“I have an old PC.. extremely old, and it runs on smooth 60 FPS (on lowest settings lol), so I advice lowering the settings for low-end PCs.” I simply needed to update my computer; it runs smoothly now. “I'm not a skilled marbler so the Awesome Time can and will be overestimated.” Neither am I. Regardless, if you wish to lower the Awesome Time, the metadata is editable by pressing the pencil button near the corner of the page. “On the Shock Absorber section, there's less runway so it's impossible to advance, but doing a wall-hit to the fence and then it's possible to advance.” I realised this, but I did not bother to correct myself. “I didn't realise there was many flaws with my level, but I'd rather not make a version 2 for originality reasons.” The “flaws” mentioned were merely suggestions, and the level is great as-is.

zyphor

Oh yeah, replying to ILFC: - I have an old PC.. extremely old, and it runs on smooth 60 FPS (on lowest settings lol), so I advice lowering the settings for low-end PCs. - I'm not a skilled marbler so the Awesome Time can and will be overestimated. - If you can get to the Shock Absorber section quickly enough, you have enough runway to perform that easily, and the more I think about it, it's a cool gimmick! - It's actually possible to get over the wall by jumping at a slope, landing on the fence and getting through. On the Shock Absorber section, there's less runway so it's impossible to advance, but doing a wall-hit to the fence and then it's possible to advance. - I didn't actually think anyone would notice, but since the level's trims are cubical, making it triangular probably doesn't make sense. I didn't realise there was many flaws with my level, but I'd rather not make a version 2 for originality reasons.

“Moving platforms are annoying and confusing to make (on Constructor) and it would take days to set it up so I use Path Nodes because it's easier and more accessible.” Sadly, this is exactly what I do. You are not the only one who does this.

zyphor

on Aug 25, 2026 at 10:28

Since there's no way to reply, I'm replying to people recommending actual moving platforms: Moving platforms are annoying and confusing to make (on Constructor) and it would take days to set it up so I use Path Nodes because it's easier and more accessible. Also for parenting, how can it be fixed? I only used position offsets, but on the port the child doesn't follow the parent.

This level is just like my ex; it has bad parenting

ILFC(Dozenalist)

Update: The Awesome Time should be 00:16.250.

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 08:44

But otherwise indeed use proper moving platforms, Keppy's hard work on integrating moving platforms into the editor wasn't meant for being ignored

RandomityGuy

on Aug 25, 2026 at 08:40

Parenting works on the web port, many of the official PQ levels make use of it. Yours isn't configured properly.

Amazing Level

ILFC(Dozenalist)

on Aug 25, 2026 at 07:50

(I apologise for the poor writing.) I would suggest to use proper moving platforms, especially for the launcher: • The collision breaks when you are caught between the moving wall and the fence; you become inside the wall as the game cannot resolve the discreprancy. • In addition, the launcher is inconsistent; it fails when the frame rate is low. I would also consider the following adjustments: • The Awesome Time should be decreased to 18 seconds or less. Even with significant lag spikes, it was not very tedious. ◦ I will playtest it further when the lag spikes disappear, because it should likely be lower than that. • There should be more runway leading to the Shock Absorber section. • The wall should eventually retract, preventing a softlock. • Near the start, there is a single piece of trim wrapping around the wall. I would replace it with a triangular one. These are all merely recommendations. Your levels are already respectable — at least they have creative gameplay. When comparing them to mine, they are masterpieces.

Parenting doesn't work on web port for some reason so it's kind of unfair.
